How to maintain a mechanical/automatic watch

1. Never wind your watch when you're wearing it.

When you try and wind while wearing the watch we exert more force on one side of the crown which will damage the watch in the long run.

2. Never set your date when the time is in between 9pm to 3am.

9pm to 3pm is where a lot of stress occurs on the gears. A general rule is to set your time to 6'o clock. Set the date (if it is the 15th set the date to the 14th) and then set the time.

3. Don't rest your watch too long or wind it every day.

We eat, exercise, and sleep to have a balanced healthy life. Watch is the same. You are giving life to it by setting time and letting it rest time to time. Too much rest on the watch will solidify the lubricants in the gears of the watch and too much winding will bring stress to the gears.

4. Wind 20-30 times before using your mechanical/automatic watch.

Generally, wind the crown till you can feel the resistance. Be gentle and do not aggressively wind till it stops. That will damage the gears in the long run.

5. Be cautious with magnets

Watches can be adversely affected by magnetism and may gain or lose time. It is important not to leave a watch close to magnetic objects for a long periods. In particular, cell phones, television and PC speakers, magnetic necklaces, handbag clasps, hair-driers, electric razors, magnetic parts of refrigerators are all magnetic. If your watch gets magnetized, go to your local watch store to get it demagnetized.

6. Keep your watch in a watch box

Do we get quality sleep by sleeping in a chair? Answer is NO. We get quality sleep by lying down on our bed with our soft pillow. Watches are the same. It's a living soul that equally need a place to rest with a soft padding. Find a watch box and make a perfect bed for your beautiful time piece.

7. Be aware of hot moisture

We see watches that are 300M waterproof. It is able to go underwater. However that does not mean you can take a shower with the watch, because hot water affects the watch in a different manner than a watch in room temperature water.

8. Always wipe your watch after a day of use with your sunglass wipes

After a long day we are exposed in dirt. Similarly the back of our watch is covered with the sweat from your wrist. Make sure to generously wipe it with your wipes.
